Hi @GEO316
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
If your HP Pavilion laptop's brightness button isn't working, here are some steps to troubleshoot:
Check Brightness Settings Manually
- Go to Settings → System → Display and try adjusting the brightness slider.
- If the slider is missing or greyed out, proceed to the next steps.
Use Function Keys
- Try pressing Fn + F2/F3 (or the brightness keys specific to your model).
- If they don’t work, press Fn + Esc to check if the function key lock is enabled.
Update Display Drivers
- Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
- Expand Display Adapters, right-click your graphics driver (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA), and select Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.
Reinstall Display Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click your display adapter and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
Disable Adaptive Brightness
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Change plan settings → Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Display, then Enable adaptive brightness, and set it to Off.
Run Windows Troubleshooter
- Open Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
- Run the Power and Hardware & Devices troubleshooters.
