When using Zoom on my Windows 11 HP Laptop, the camera light lights up, but there is no video from me on Zoom. Zoom displays a black screen with a camera icon with a cancel sign on it--meaning it is not available. I have checked in the Windows Settings under Security and Privacy, and the "make camera available to apps" is checked. However, I cannot add Zoom as an app in order to grant it access. The driver for the camera is up to date, and I have uninstalled and re-installed Zoom. I need this software to work properly on this laptop.

Hi @SamB89
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I’m sorry you’re dealing with this—it’s frustrating when the camera light turns on but Zoom still refuses to display video.
Since you’ve already checked Windows privacy settings and updated the camera driver, here are some additional steps to try:
1. Check for a Physical Camera Kill Switch
- Some HP laptops have a physical camera switch near the webcam or on the keyboard (often F8 or F10).
- If your laptop has one, make sure it’s turned on.
2. Test the Camera in Another App
- Open the Camera app (Win + S, type "Camera", and open it).
- If the camera works in the Camera app, the issue is likely Zoom-specific.
3. Reset Camera Permissions
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
- Toggle Camera access off and then back on.
- Scroll down and ensure Let desktop apps access your camera is enabled.
4. Manually Select the Camera in Zoom
- Open Zoom → Click on your profile picture → Settings.
- Go to Video and check if the correct camera is selected.
- If it’s blank, try selecting Integrated Camera manually.
5. Update Windows & Zoom
- Open Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
- In Zoom, go to Settings → Check for Updates.
6. Uninstall & Reinstall the Camera Driver
- Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras.
- Right-click your camera and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
Let me know if any of these steps help! 😊

Thank you so much for you help. There is an extremely tiny slide switch near the camera lens. I honestly didn't know it was there. I just bought this laptop recently, and I don't know it very well. After I flipped the switch, the camera is working in Zoom now.
