HP Laptop - 14-dk1046nr

I’m contacting you because my HP laptop has been extremely slow and often shuts down unexpectedly. This has made it difficult to use the device for even basic tasks.

In addition to the performance issues, I had purchased an extended warranty for this laptop, but when I check the system, it shows that I have no active warranty. I’d like to have this looked into as well since I should still be covered.

I’ve already tried basic troubleshooting like restarts and checking for updates, but the issues persist. Please let me know what information or documentation you need from me to investigate both the laptop problems and the warranty status.

@DJT8, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing slow performance and unexpected shutdowns on your HP Laptop - 14-dk1046nr. Let's work together to get this resolved. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and improve your laptop's performance:

Run HP Support Assistant

HP provides a built-in tool called HP Support Assistant that can automatically diagnose and fix many common issues.

  1. Download or open HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
  2. Run the Performance Tune-up Check to optimize your system.
  3. Also run the Battery Check and System Diagnostics to identify any hardware issues.

Clean Up and Optimize Your System

Follow these tips to improve performance:

  • Uninstall unused programs.
  • Disable startup apps via Task Manager > Startup tab.
  • Run Disk Cleanup and delete temporary files.
  • Check for malware using Windows Security or a trusted antivirus.

Check for Overheating or Battery Issues

Frequent shutdowns may be due to overheating or battery problems.

  • Ensure the laptop is on a hard, flat surface for proper ventilation.
  • Clean air vents using compressed air.
  • Run the Battery Test in HP Support Assistant or BIOS diagnostics:
    • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter diagnostics.
    • Select Component Tests > Battery.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated BIOS or drivers can cause instability.

  • Visit the official support page for your model: Official HP® Support
  • Download and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and graphics drivers.

Consider a System Reset (if issues persist)

If none of the above steps help, you might consider a Windows Reset:

  • Go to Settings > System > Recovery > Reset this PC.
  • Choose Keep my files to preserve your data.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
