@dahuber_72, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Unfortunately, it seems that you're experiencing an issue with your keyboard. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to potentially resolve the issue with your HP laptop keyboard:
Check for Physical Obstructions:
- Ensure there is nothing physically blocking or stuck under the keys. Gently clean around the keys that are not responding.
Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics tools that can help identify hardware issues. To access this tool, turn off your laptop, then turn it back on and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu is displayed. Run the keyboard test to check for any issues.
Check Keyboard Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (you can search for it using Windows search).
- Locate "Keyboards," expand the section, and right-click your keyboard device.
- Select "Update driver" and follow the prompts to search automatically for updated driver software.
Use On-Screen Keyboard:
- While troubleshooting, use the On-Screen Keyboard for typing by searching for "On-Screen Keyboard" in Windows search or accessing it through the Windows Ease of Access Center.
Perform a Keyboard Reset:
- Sometimes, resetting the keyboard settings can help. Go to the Control Panel, select "Hardware and Sound," and then "Devices and Printers." Right-click your keyboard and select "Keyboard Settings" to reset any changes.
Check for Software Issues:
- Restart your laptop in Safe Mode to see if the problem persists. If the keyboard works in Safe Mode, a software issue might be the cause.
Perform a System Restore:
- If this issue began recently, performing a system restore could return your system settings to a previous state where the keyboard was functioning. Search for "System Restore" in Windows and follow the instructions.
