My laptop keeps going to sleep if I leave it alone for more than a minute or so. Plugged in or not plugged in doesn't make a difference. I have double checked every sleep/screen saver option and each one is set to never go to sleep or turn off the screen whether my laptop is charging or not. Sometimes it will close all of my programs when it does this and sometimes it will not. I've tried restarting, checking all the drivers, and closing then opening my laptop and nothing fixes the issue. I had this issue about a month ago as well and it evenutally just went away on its own after a few days, but I want to know how to fix it for good!

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case relating to the computer going to sleep when it is idle even for a minute. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that.
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.
- Did this happen after a recent Software or Windows update?
- Was there a power outage or surge before this occurred?
- Please let me know the complete model# and product# of the computer to assist you correctly.
For now please try these steps:
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
- Check the box that states delete the software for this device. Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from this link: https://hp.care/2syreDe Select the country and enter the product# of the computer. Please select the correct operating system and follow the on-screen instructions.
Please perform a hard reset from this link: http://hp.care/2nwQ054
Then perform these steps to see if it gets resolved:
- Go to Control Panel, then click Power Options.
- From the Select a power plan page, click Choose what the power buttons do from the list on the left panel.
- On the Define power buttons and turn on password protection page, you then have the option of choosing what happens when you:
- press the power button
- press the sleep button
- When I close the lid- select the sleep option (not shutdown or hibernate)
- Now check again.
- If it does not work then please perform all the prescribed steps from this link:http://hp.care/2gMk20y and follow the option “The computer does not wake up from sleep or hibernate mode”.Then check if the issue is resolved. Please disable Hybrid sleep as well.
This should fix the issue.
- Please change the power plan and set it to high performance from this link:http://hp.care/2rUUbXB
Now check for issue resolution.
- If the issue continues, then create a new user account as an administrator from this link: https://hp.care/2rZfJBC
- Log into the new user account after restarting your computer and check again.
- This might do the trick for you.
If the issue still persists, then backup your important data and perform a Microsoft push-button reset of Windows 10 from this link: https://hp.care/2toQrBj
and it should resolve the issue for you. There is an associated YouTube video on how to do it.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi David,
I have tried all of the fixes besides the push button reset of Windows 10, as re-installing all of my programs isn't viable for my work, and going in and setting the keyboard to be able to wake up the computer, as I cannot find that option even following the prompts on the page you provided. Unfortunately none of the fixes have solved the issue, my computer is still going to sleep after a minute of inactivity. 😞
Are there any other fixes you could reccommend?
Thank you for your reply!

Thank you for responding and giving us this update. It is great to have you back. Your time and patience are greatly appreciated. You've displayed great resolve and immense patience coupled with uncanny technical prowess to try and get it fixed. That is an enviable combination.Kudos to you for that.:)
If you have tried all the other steps and the issue persists, then there is more to it than meets the eye. It could be hardware related for which the computer needs to be repaired or serviced. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush. The push button reset will clearly isolate the issue to being hardware or software related. That is why it was suggested.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:https://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed year ahead and stay healthy 🙂
Cheers!

Hi David,
I had exactly the same problem to which you replied. I followed your instructions including
"For now please try these steps:
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
- Check the box that states delete the software for this device. Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from this link: https://hp.care/2syreDe Select the country and enter the product# of the computer. Please select the correct operating system and follow the on-screen instructions."
I deleted the display drivers and software (under Display Adaptors) which included the Intel and NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 650M.
When I went to update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from the link you provided, I found that my OS is not listed !?
I am unable to update the NVIDIA drivers from NVIDIA website as there is an error.
Could you please advise whats happened and how to fix it all??
Thank you,
Amin
