Laptop Replacement - DOA

My laptop display had stopped working in just 2 days of purchase and have used all trouble shooting techniques and have got an onsite visit from the HP technician. The issue could not be resolved and today I got a letter from HP stating the device has been declared DOA and have asked me to take the replacement letter along with the laptop and accessories in the orginal carton box back to the reseller.

My problem is that I do not have the original box (sorry I did not think of needing a replacement so soon that I forgot to read the replacement instructions on product purchase). So before I have to listen to terms and conditions from the dealer or some other excuse for not replacing my laptop. . .I just wanted to confirm if the original carboard box is mandatory for replacement of the device or is it ok if I just take the laptop and charger.

There is no way to guess what the reseller may have to say about a missing box. However I would tend to think it would not be mandatory to have it with the letter from HP. After all-it is only the laptop which has the fault.

Just wanted to let you and everyone with a similar issue know what happened afterwards. . . . 

As said on the DOA letter from HP, the HP laptop packing box is mandatory but it is not necessary that it is of the same laptop. If you do not have the original box that has a matching laptop serial number then what you have to do is find another HP laptop box from somewhere and pack your laptop and accessories inside it. Then the associate from HP service centre will verify and seal the box along with a DOA sticker. Since I had used a different box, there will be an additional letter attached on top of the box stating that there is a difference in serial number which is also issued by the HP service centre.

Eventhough I am happy to finally get a replacement laptop, I would really like HP to loosen up on giving so much emphasis on just a box. If this rule cannot be changed then atleast instruct the resellers to communicate to the customers, the importance of the cardboard box when purchasing an HP Laptop.

Can you give me a copy of Doa letter.

The DOA letter is issued by HP after the support tech comes and verifies your device. That letter does not state anything about the original box. The letter stating that this is a different box was brought my the tech when I went with him to laptop purchase store. In his presence the store will open the new laptop box replace the laptop and use the new box to send back your DOA laptop. Hope this was helpful.

The DOA letter will only say that the device has been confirmed to be DOA so please take the laptop and this letter to the reseller. Everything else from there is upto the tech support team that visited your house for the laptop verification
