Im new to this and was not sure how to reply to a post I saw on here from Selebrity27, having the same issue as me.
My screen display is black. The weird part is if I'm sitting in front of a glass window, the sun shining in reflecting off my laptop screen and looking at it at the right angle. I can see my logIn page, my desktop. I looked in the settings under system, display, and looked over the brightness settings and color settings. I couldn't find anything that might be set wrong.
As soon as I plugged my laptop into my TV with an HDMI cable, I saw my logIn page and desktop. I have full use of the laptop by using my TV as the screen display . Does this man I need to replace the screen ?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
- When was the last time it worked without these issues?
- Have you updated Graphics and Chipset drivers?
- Have you checked the display on an external monitor?
let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:
I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,
If the issue persists in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello Echo_Lake,
I figured it out finally after doing a lot of online research. With my laptop running and flashing a flashlight close to the screen I can see images in the background, like the clock, date, and even the login. So I'm thinking my backlight is no good, so I took the bezel off and the screen out just didn't unplug it. I turned my laptop on to see if it was still a black screen, lo-and-behold the screen came back on.
To answer some of your question. Last Saturday was the last time the screen was working, Sunday it was black, I didn't download any programs or do any modifications.
My screen would work when plugged into my smart TV with an HDMI cable.
I cant update drivers or BIOS on the HP website, due to me downloading windows 10 on my untested laptop.
Does anyone know of a good website to buy HP Pavilion dv7 6c95dx parts ??

Thank you for posting back.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)
To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.
Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.
- To open the HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon
.
- Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
- Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
- Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
- Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
- Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello Echo_Lake,
I cant update any software, drivers, or the BIOS on the HP website.
Because I downloaded windows 10 OS on my HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx entertainment Notebook, and my notebook is part of the long list of computers that was Not Tested to Work in Windows 10 . So I guess HP doesn't have any downloadable software or drivers for my notebook.
I did try using the HP Support Assistant tool and did a scan, HP has no updates for my notebook.
Does anyone know of a good website to buy HP Pavilion dv7 6c95dx parts ??
Thank You

Thank you for posting back.
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
The last thing I can suggest trying to restore the computer back to the factory settings. Performing an HP system recovery (Windows ) While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/
The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.
- Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04758961#AbT3to perform System Recovery (Windows 10)
- Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06162205 to Use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10)

Hello Echo_Lake,
Thank you for all your help and suggestions, but I want to keep windows 10 on my notebook. I guess this just means I won't be able to ever update any software, drivers, or the BIOS.
I was more less just wondering if there was maybe a 3rd party I could download software and drivers?
I can only update and download my BIOS from HP right?

I would request you to contact our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to sort this out. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
- I don't recommend to use Third-party apps as they are not tested by HP and may not be accurate.
