I have a HP Envy x360 connected to HP USB-C Dock G5. It goes to sleep after 3 minutes of inactivity; I have to wake it up (takes a few seconds) then log back in. I would like it never go to sleep. I have changed the settings in the laptop (when not connected to the docking station) but that hasn't helped.

Hi @GrahamBlundell,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Laptop.

Follow the below steps to fix the issue.

-Perform a power drain on your PC.

1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.

2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.

5) Power on the PC and update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

-Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.

Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Thank you for responding. However that not only didn't solve the problem, it made things worse.

I went through the procedures you described. I am not sure what a "power drain" is, but I held the power button down as described, waited 30 seconds, then plugged the laptop in (I was doing all this with the laptop disconnected from the docking station). The laptop booted up as normal, it didn't take me to a BIOS screen or anything unusual. So I opened your message and clicked on the link in it, which took me to the instructions on how to update the BIOS. It quickly told me me BIOS driver was already up to date. So then I went to Windows Updates and got the same message.

At this point I powered down the laptop and plugged it back into the docking station. This is whore things got worse. The docking station no longer powers on at all - the light doesn't come on, the flash drive that is plugged into the station and normally starts flashing did not do so. I have checked that the power cord is plugged in to a live outlet. When I unplug the power cord from the docking station, I get a noise from the speakers that are also plugged into it, indicating that something is going on power-wise.)

So I am now using the laptop as a standalone device, which is very much not what I want.

I have got the docking station problem resolved. However it is still going to sleep as it was before, nothing has changed.

Hi @GrahamBlundell,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much.

The support here is limited and this issue might require one-on-one interaction to fix it.
