I have an HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop purchased in August last year. I have always used it with an external monitor connected via a docking station plugged into the USB-C port. A few days ago the laptop stopped recognising any external monitor. I have checked that the docking station works (it still works for my wireless keyboard/mouse), tried another docking station, tried another monitor and tried another HDMI cable connecting the monitor to the docking station. Still no recognition of the external monitor. I have tried the docking station/monitor setup with another laptop and it works fine.
I have gone through each of the suggested fixes that I can find on this site. Nothing has worked.
Since the problem has started with the external monitor I have also been getting notifications encouraging me to use an official HP charger. This is odd, because I am using the HP charger that came with the laptop. Could this be related?
Any suggestions on how to solve?

Hi @Jdacam,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already done quite a bit of troubleshooting, which is great for narrowing down the issue. The fact that the external monitor setup works with another laptop suggests that the problem lies with your HP Envy x360.
Regarding the notifications about using an official HP charger, this could be related if there's an underlying power issue affecting the USB-C port or other components of the laptop. Sometimes, laptops may display such notifications if they detect a potential power supply or charging problem.
Here are a few additional steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:
- Update Drivers: Make sure that all your drivers are up to date, especially the graphics driver and any USB-related drivers. You can usually find these updates on the HP website under the support section for your specific laptop model.
- Check Device Manager: Go to Device Manager in your Windows settings and look for any yellow exclamation marks next to your USB or display adapter devices. This could indicate a driver issue or hardware problem.
- Reset BIOS/UEFI Settings: Sometimes, resetting the BIOS/UEFI settings to default can resolve hardware-related issues. Be cautious with this step and make sure you know what settings you're resetting.
- Run Hardware Diagnostics: Many laptops, including HP models, have built-in hardware diagnostic tools that you can run to check for any hardware failures. You can usually access these by pressing a specific key during startup (often F2 or F10) or through the HP Support Assistant software.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
