I previously had a docking station for my laptop which worked great using my USB-C for a long time until it no longer worked. Now, I am setting up a KVM dual monitor desk and the USB-C detects Audio, Internet, Power, but not the HDMI Monitors. Monitors work with other laptop with a little D symbol next to the USB-C. Not sure why it suddenly "stopped". I have tried turning everything on and off, updating drivers, etc.

Hi @HotMustard13256,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like your HP ENVY x360 is facing issues with detecting external monitors via USB-C, even though other functionalities like audio, internet, and power are working. Since the monitors work with another laptop, the issue likely lies with either the laptop's settings, drivers, or hardware.
Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve this issue:
Check if USB-C Port Supports Display Output
- Ensure that your HP ENVY x360’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode (DP Alt Mode) for video output. Not all USB-C ports support video output, and if this functionality suddenly stopped, it could be due to driver or firmware issues.
Update or Roll Back Display/USB-C Drivers
- Update Drivers: Go to Device Manager > Display adapters and update the graphics drivers.
- If you’re using an Intel GPU, download the latest drivers from the Intel website. For AMD or NVIDIA GPUs, visit their respective websites for updates.
- Update USB-C Drivers: Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers and update any related drivers, especially USB-C or Thunderbolt-related drivers.
- If the latest update triggered the issue, you might want to roll back the display or USB-C driver to an earlier version that worked.
Check Display Settings
- Go to Settings > System > Display, and click Detect to see if Windows recognizes any external displays.
- You can also try pressing Windows + P to toggle through the display options (Duplicate, Extend, etc.) and see if that triggers recognition of the monitors.
USB-C to HDMI Adapter/KVM Switch Compatibility
- Some USB-C to HDMI adapters and KVM switches might have compatibility issues. Since your KVM setup works with another laptop, try using a direct connection via a USB-C to HDMI adapter without the KVM switch to rule out compatibility issues with the KVM itself.
BIOS/UEFI Update
- Check for any BIOS updates for your HP ENVY x360 on the HP support page. A BIOS update could resolve hardware-related issues with USB-C ports or video output.
Check Power Delivery
- If the monitors are powered through the USB-C connection, ensure that enough power is being delivered to the laptop and the external monitors. Some docking stations or KVM setups might reduce power delivery, which can affect the functionality of the display.

Try Another Cable
- If possible, try using a different USB-C cable (ensure it's rated for video and data transfer). Cables can degrade over time, and a new, higher-quality cable might resolve the issue.
Hardware Diagnostics
- Run the built-in HP hardware diagnostics tool. You can access this by restarting your laptop and pressing F2 during startup. Look for any issues with the USB-C port or graphics.
Test with a Different Docking Station/KVM
- To rule out the docking station or KVM as the issue, test your laptop with a different docking station that supports USB-C video output.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
