I've got an issue on my laptop. When above about halfway up the slider for brightness, the screen flashes. The higher up I go, the faster it flashes. Bringing it back down to around 50% seems to eliminate the flashing, but the screen is darker than I would like.

 

When I connect to an external monitor, there is no flashing with the external monitor. The flashing starts from the moment the laptop boots. (i.e. Not just in Windows)

I've seen some posts where recommendations are bios resets, but that didn't work. I've run the HP support app that found no errors. I've confirmed that all drivers are current.

 

I've seen posts that have an HP tech send a private message to solve the problem. I've seen one that recommended the user replace the display cable.  Can anyone else confirm that this sounds like the display cable? If so, how can I find the part number w/out disassembling the laptop; there are just too many options on Amazon for me to feel comfortable buying one.
