HP Pavilion - 13-an1007na
Microsoft Windows 11

When I switch on my HP Pavilion, the screen comes on at first. When I start using the mouse (any mouse or trackpad) the screen starts to flicker and goes black. It then flickers between on and off. If I can catch it and restart while it's on, it is fine after that, until the next restart/sleep cycle.

Hi @winter_lady,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern and don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the flickering happen only when you move the mouse/trackpad, or does it also occur when you’re typing or opening applications?
  • Does it happen whether the laptop is plugged in or running on battery?
  • Have you noticed if it occurs after waking from sleep as well as after a full restart?

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try:

  1. Update Graphics Drivers: Open Device Manager → Display adapters, right‑click your graphics card, and select Update driver. You can also check HP Support Assistant for updates.
  2. Run HP Diagnostics: Restart your laptop and press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. Run a display test to check for hardware issues.
  3. Check Power Settings: In Control Panel → Power Options, make sure your plan isn’t set to aggressive power‑saving modes.
  4. External Monitor Test: If you have access to another monitor, connect your laptop to it. If the external display works fine, the issue may be with the laptop’s screen or internal connections.

I hope this helps.
