Hello all,

I use my HP Pavilion x360 with an external screen - a HP 24fw. I've never had a problem with extending the display across both screens. However, I was away from home for a month and having just got back and plugged in the external monitor, the setup is no longer working. Every time I plug it in, the laptop monitor (display 1) becomes inactive and the external screen becomes the sole display. Any suggestions for solving this problem? I have tried a basic restart as well as reinstalling the driver (there were no updates), but the problem persists.

Hi @Matt251

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing external monitor-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

When you say it is inactive, do you mean you see a black screen, or is it just stuck on display?

I would suggest you perform a hard reset and check if the issue persists:

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.

3) Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

4) Plug-in the Adapter.

5) Try to turn on the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi. Thanks for the update but I have tried this and it does not work.

In that case, I would suggest you please update all the drivers of it and let me know the outcome of it.

Thanks!

Thank you for the next advice. I have update the display drivers and this also does not resolve the issue

Thanks for your response.

One of the main causes for this issue is a corrupt system file preventing the operating system from loading, resulting in a black or blank screen. Restart Windows to see if it's a temporary issue and resolves itself with a reboot. If the problem persists, erase your hard drive and reinstall Windows.

Thank you for the reply and apologies for my delay in responding. The hard reset and driver updates didn't help. However, I changed my setup this week - added a HP E24 touch monitor and ran both external monitors through a Wavlink dock. Somehow this resolved the issue with the intial external monitor, which is now working.

I know this isn't going to help the other person having the same issue, but at least everything's back working the way it should here. Thanks for trying to help.
