I've been using a second monitor since I bought this laptop and it simply stopped working - bought new HDMI cables and it continues to say that the laptop is not sending a signal to the second monitor. I've updated every driver I can find and they all they are up to date. I need this second monitor to work. The HP laptop does not detect the second monitor.

Hi @Karioca95 ,
Thank you for your reply
I understand you've tried a lot of troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue with your HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eh2085cl not sending a signal to the second monitor. Given what you've done so far,
here are additional steps you can try to pinpoint and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check Display Settings
- Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings".
- Scroll down and click "Detect" under "Multiple displays."
- See if the laptop detects any external monitor, even if it's not showing up.
- If the monitor is detected but shows no signal, try adjusting the display mode:
- Use Win + P to toggle between display modes (Duplicate, Extend, or Second screen only).
2. Check Graphics Drivers (More Thoroughly)
You mentioned updating the drivers, but to ensure thoroughness:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand "Display adapters" and right-click on your graphics driver (you should see either AMD or Intel, depending on your configuration).
- Select "Uninstall device" (make sure to check the box for removing the driver if available).
- Restart your laptop and let Windows reinstall the default driver.
Alternatively, you can reinstall your graphics driver manually:
- Visit the HP support page for your laptop model, find the graphics driver under drivers, and reinstall the latest one.
3. Test in Safe Mode
Sometimes third-party software or a system setting can interfere with external displays.
- Restart the laptop in Safe Mode:
- Hold Shift while clicking Restart from the Start menu.
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart, and press F4 to start in Safe Mode.
- Once in Safe Mode, connect the monitor and see if the display works. If it does, the issue may be caused by a third-party app or setting.
4. Roll Back Recent Windows Updates
If the issue started after a recent update, it’s possible that a Windows update caused a compatibility issue.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select "View update history".
- If you notice any recent updates, try rolling them back by selecting "Uninstall updates".
5. BIOS/UEFI Update
Occasionally, updating the BIOS/UEFI can help resolve hardware issues, including display problems:
- Visit the HP website for your laptop model and download the latest BIOS/UEFI update.
- Follow the instructions provided by HP to safely install the update.
6. HDMI Port or Hardware Issue
If none of the above steps work, it’s possible that there’s a hardware issue with your HDMI port.
- Test other peripherals on that HDMI port to see if they work.
- If nothing else works, it might be worth considering a repair or consultation with HP support to check if the HDMI port is faulty.

My laptop is a HP Pavillion 15 the model number is 61D22UA
I have tried three different cords as well as three different models of secondary monitors with this laptop and they don't work. I was working on a secondary monitor and it stopped working out of the blue last week. I have updated all of the graphics and video drivers that I can find. Can you please assist?
Thanks,
Kari
