HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4V9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My Hp pavilion turns on and the indicator light is white and not blinking but the display remains black. I have tried to hold down the windows key + b while holding the power button for 3 seconds, then I tried holding the power button for 10 seconds and nothing happened. I even removed the battery and put it back in but there were still just a black screen. My external monitor doesn’t show anything when I plug it in to the HDMI port.

What do I do?

Hi @Linda_n,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

There could be several reasons why your HP Pavilion laptop is turning on but not displaying anything on the screen. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check if the laptop is actually turning on. Sometimes, the indicator light may be on but the laptop itself is not actually turning on. To check, try pressing some keys on the keyboard or the power button to see if the laptop responds.
  • Check the brightness level of the screen. Sometimes the screen may be turned off or the brightness level may be too low, causing the display to appear black. Try adjusting the brightness level using the function keys on your keyboard.
  • Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop to see if the problem is with the laptop's screen. If the external monitor works, then the issue is likely with the laptop's display.
  • Check if the laptop is in sleep mode or hibernation. If so, try pressing the power button to wake it up.
  • If none of the above steps work, try performing a hard reset by turning off the laptop, unplugging it from the power source, removing the battery (if possible), and holding down the power button for 15-20 seconds. Then, plug the laptop back in and turn it on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
