HP Envy 17t-n100
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone,

I have an HP Envy 17t-n100 and I've been having an issue with my laptop entering sleep when I close the lid. I've checked the power and advanced power options to see what actions will take place once the lid is closed on multiple occasions but there has been no change whenever I check. Sleep mode after a set amount of time is working just fine. I'm not sure when this problem started but I believe it began around 4 months ago. Also when I close the lid, I've noticed that the screen is still on so could the problem be the mechanism that tells the laptop that the lid is closed? If that's it where is this located?

Thanks,

xencael

Hi! @xencael, Thank you for joining the HP Forums!

I understand that your laptop does not sleep when you close the lid.

Try few step recommended below.

-Go to windows desktop

-Hold Windows key + Letter R key.

-open Device Manager
-expand "Display adapters" field
-right-click on "Intel(R) HD Graphics Family"
-choose "Properties"
-left-click on "Driver" tab
-click "Uninstall"
-check the box "Delete the driver software for this device", then "OK"
-when it is done, restart the computer
-after Windows start up, the driver for should be installed automatically.

Also, update BIOS and Chipset drivers from the link below.

Intel Chipset driver link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72106.exe

Hope to hear from you soon!

Cheers! 🙂

Hey Chetan,

Sorry it's been a few days since I've last checked. The suggested solution did not work. I'm not sure if I was clear or not but the screen stays on when the lid is closed but I'm not sure what the cause is. I've read around a lot for solutions but nothing has worked so far..

Best,

@xencael
Thanks for the update,

I appreciate your patience and your efforts,

I understand you've attempted the steps suggested by the last tech and others,

However, the issue persists and I'm not sure what else you've done but here's a solution i found,

Please follow the below steps:

Let's begin by disabling the Hybrid sleep: Click here for a YouTube video with a step-by-step guide.

For steps & details on how to control what your LID does:

In the Power Options window that opens, click the Choose what closing the lid does link on the left sidebar.

Here you can choose what your power buttons do on your computer, as well as what happens when you shut the lid.
You can select to Do nothingSleepHibernate, or Shut down
In general, Sleep is a good option, but if you want to leave your laptop running, select do nothing.

Note that you can change the settings for both on battery and Plugged in, so your laptop will work differently when you’re using mobile versus when you’re plugged in at your desk.  Since we usually would only want to leave our laptop running when it’s plugged in, we set ours to still go to sleep when it’s on battery power but to do nothing when you close the lid while it’s plugged in.  Very handy.

Underneath you’ll notice a couple more settings, though they’re protected by default.  Click Change settings that are currently unavailable to change them.

Now you can choose whether or not you want your computer to require the password when it wakes from sleep mode.

Once you’re done, click Save at the bottom to start using your new settings.
If you want to switch back when you’re on the move again, just repeat the steps and set it like you like.
Now you’re in full control of what happens when you close your laptop.

Let me know if those steps worked for you.  If they did, that’s awesome!  Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons, that’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.

@xencael, thanks for the response.

As you mentioned even after troubleshooting the issue still persists.

Open a Command prompt (Admin) and type (or copy and paste):

powercfg -h off and enter key.

If you need to restore it again

powercfg -h on and hit the enter key.

Go to >>> "ScreenSaver" >>> "Change Power Settings" >>> "Change Plan Settings" >>> "Change Advance Power Settings" >>> "Multimedia Settings" >>> "When Sharing Media" >>> and make sure the setting says "ALLOW THE COMPUTER TO SLEEP."

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you try performing recovery from f11.

Refer this article to know how to perform system recovery: http://hp.care/2cf8noz

Let me know if this works!

Cheers! 🙂

 @MrRobot, thanks for another suggestion.

The cmd commands and changing the settings did not work and reluctantly I made time to do a recovery and that did not work as well.
