Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!

My new S2 Pro Triple Screen laptop extender isn't fully working on my HP Envy x360 laptop.  One extended monitor does work but the 2nd extended monitor (3rd screen) will flicker on and provide a message that there is no data and turns itself off to conserve energy. The question here is if the USB-A and USB-C ports are capable of providing sufficient power and display data to power and properly run the S2 Pro.

Hi @CTRLMan01,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It seems like your HP Envy x360 might be struggling to support both extended screens simultaneously. Let’s troubleshoot the issue and explore some solutions.

First, check if your laptop’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode (video output) and Power Delivery. You can do this by opening the Device Manager, expanding Display Adapters, and looking for Intel Graphics or AMD Radeon. Check the specifications online to confirm compatibility. If your USB-C port doesn’t support DisplayPort, you may only be able to run one external monitor.

Next, experiment with different ports and connections. If you’re using USB-A, it might not provide enough power—try USB-C for better data transfer and power. You can also use a powered USB-C hub with 100W Power Delivery. If your laptop has an HDMI port, you could connect one monitor via HDMI and the other via USB-C.

In your display settings, go to System > Display to see if both screens are detected. If not, click "Detect Displays." To reduce bandwidth demand, lower the resolution on the second monitor.

Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. Check the HP website or Device Manager to update your Intel/AMD Graphics drivers. If you’re using a DisplayLink extender, download the latest DisplayLink drivers for optimal compatibility.

If your extender has a power input, connect it to an external adapter rather than relying on the laptop’s USB ports. This can help alleviate power constraints.

Finally, test your S2 Pro extender with another laptop that has stronger USB-C support to determine if the issue lies with your Envy x360’s capabilities. If the problem persists, investing in a powered USB hub or docking station might be the most effective solution.

Let me know how these steps work for you. I’m happy to help further if needed! 😊
