I'm looking to replace my current external monitor with something bigger - currently it's 1920x1080 - ideally I'd like to go something like 4k or similar - I'm not looking to play games or anything (I'll connect an xbox to the monitor for that) it's really about more real estate for work, and the odd video watching.

Looking at the specs I _think_ my laptop would support 4k, but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks

It only has HDMI version 1.4b supporting 1920 ×1080 @ 60Hz port. You can't get 4K monitor wit 60Hz, you may be able to use 4K monitor but only get 30Hz.

Thanks for that  - so looking at this :

That implies I should be able to get 2.5k or 3.5k running at 60hz.

I don't think 30Hz is really optimal

so in theory I can get 2.5k/3.5k at a reasonable refresh rate, but is the laptop/graphics card actually able to support that?

I'm not sure what you are asking there..... but what I'm saying is that I should hopefully be able to get either 2.5k or 3.5k at 60hz using the hdmi port

For HDMI 1.4b port on your machine, I said no that means no. You may be able to connect whatever you like over 1920x1080 to get 60Hz but my point: will it work PROPERLY ?
