HP ENVY Laptop - 17t-cg000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

Had to rebuild OS. Recovery USB from HP did not work. Created a win 11 boot USB to reload OS. Resolution stuck at 1980x1024. Should be 3840x2160. How do I fix it?

Hi @TheElder ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY laptop is not displaying the correct resolution after reinstalling Windows 11, you can try the following steps to fix the issue:

Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Look for any display adapter-related issues. If you see a yellow triangle or an exclamation mark, it indicates a problem with the driver.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Right-click on the display adapter in Device Manager and select "Update driver."
  • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and follow the on-screen instructions.

Install HP Drivers:

  • Visit the official HP support website for your laptop model.
  • Download and install the latest graphics drivers for your system.

Adjust Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
  • Under "Resolution," select the recommended resolution for your display (3840x2160).

Check Graphics Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select "Graphics Options" or "Graphics Properties."
  • Ensure that the resolution is set correctly.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Access your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings during the boot process (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or Del).
  • Check if there are any display-related settings, and make sure they are configured correctly.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that Windows 11 is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Reinstall Graphics Drivers:

  • Uninstall the graphics drivers from Device Manager and then reinstall them.

Use the Display Troubleshooter:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Go to System > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Run the "Display" troubleshooter.

Restore from a System Restore Point:

  • If you have a system restore point created before the issue occurred, you can try restoring your system to that point.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Got caught up with grandchildren and the holidays so I apologize for the slow response. I spent hours reviewing the knowledge base before I sent the initial SOS. Utilizing your step-by-step guide I found it to be a driver issue, following your guide it was then easy to zero in and corrected it.

Thank you so much. I honestly did not expect an answer. You went beyond. I hope your holiday was as enjoyable as mine. It is nice to have the full resolution again on my laptop.

Wishing you the best,

Patrick
