HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15m-ee0013dx
Microsoft Windows 11

Was wondering if this laptop (hp envy x360 15m-ee0013dx) is compatible with Miracast? I just got a Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, and although Windows can detect and starts to connect, it kicks me right back to the setup screen without an error message. I realize that this may be a Microsoft/Windows issue, but after following through with all of the troubleshooting steps on Microsoft's and various other website's troubleshooting guides, I'm just left wondering if this device is even capable of Miracast even though when my dxdiag says that it is available under system information.  Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Its specs

     https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06632873

It has  Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX 200 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 Combo (Supporting Gigabit file transfer speeds) adapter which is NOT a Miracast compatible. The series has following options

  • Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro 160 MHz PCI-e + USB WW with 2 antenna(s) part # L35282-005
  • Realtek ac 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 M.2 2230 PCI-e + USB WW part # L44796-005

None of them is Miracast compatible.

Hi, @danthemfman

I have the HP 15-ee0047nr notebook which has the same Wi-Fi adapter, processor and graphics as the 15m-Ee0013dx.

After reading this discussion, since I had never tried screen mirroring, when I tried to connect to my Samsung 28" smart TV, it saw the TV, but would not connect.

I also have other devices such as a Firestick and Roku.  The notebook saw those devices as well.

I was able to connect the notebook to my Roku which was connected to my 28" Samsung TV, and it worked just fine.

So, your notebook should support wireless display, but perhaps not on all devices.

Yeah, it was really strange. My dxdiag.txt says that the system itself is supported, but the AMD display driver is not, and that actually makes sense on why when I connect, it'll say connecting to "(My Name)" on the TV, but will automatically kick me off when it's actually trying to display as a 2nd monitor. (Oddly enough, actually, it did display for about 2 seconds when I performed a clean install of windows, but immediately disconnected me afterwards. That's the main reason I kept trying to get this working.)

Upon a little further searching, it seems like this may be a common issue with the AMD drivers themselves, and not the actual hardware. Many people posted on AMD community forums that Miracast has stopped working after updating drivers, but these are all different drivers for different cards, so who actually knows, but there were multiple people posting about it.

I've pretty much given up on it now, just going to buy a chromecast (or a roku like you said) I suppose. Like I said, I just thought it was strange I got a display for about 2 seconds after a clean install so I figured I'd give this the deepest dive I could. It looks like this is an AMD issue with the specific drivers for this device, so I won't be holding my breath.

Yes, I was surprised when my Samsung TV asked me to 'Allow' my x360 15-ee0047nr to connect and I selected OK and it thought about it for a while and then indicated couldn't connect.

With the Roku set to allow screen mirroring, it connected in seconds.

I didn't try my Firestick or the other 2 Samsung Smart TV's I have elsewhere in the house.

I use the AMD chipset drivers for Ryzen processors and the AMD graphics driver for the 4500U processor.

They work fine.
