HP ZBook G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I believe I have a missing driver for a Thunderbolt Dock I use with my ZBook G4 laptop.

The Thunderbolt Dock no longer gives me access to extra displays I have plugged in.

When I hook up to the Thunderbolt Dock an "Unknown Device" appears in Device Manager.

THe Deive Instance ID is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15D2&SUBSYS_11112222&REV_02\6&2828CADB&0&000000E4.

Could someone let me know which driver I need?

Kind regards

Steve

Hi, Steve:

This file has driver support for the ID you posted...

Intel Thunderbolt 3 connection management application and driver

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp92001-92500/sp92028.exe

A partial copy and paste of the driver setup information file...

Hi Paul

Ran sp92028, but Device Manager still shows unknow device.

Looking at the Intel_ThunderBolt_log.txt file it looks like the installation failed. Below is the text I see near the end of the file

Kind regards,

Stephen

Hi, Stephen:

Sorry that didn't work for you.

The only other suggestion I can offer, would be to try manually installing the driver as follows...

Go to the device manager.

Click on the unknown device needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp92028.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

Hi Paul

I tried as you suggested, but the installation still fails.

I suspect it is hardware related and have asked for a new Thunderbolt dock.

Does that sound sensible to you?

Steve

Hi, Steve:

Sorry the manual install didn't work either.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know what the problem could be unless there is a different driver for that ID that I don't know about.

Hopefully the replacement dock will resolve the issue, but I am not overly confident that it will.

Regards,

Paul
