HP Envy x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-ac0000 (9D0T1AV)

I'm going insane over this. I bought a new laptop a few months ago: the Envy x360 (windows 11). It comes with a built-in webcam. I've never needed it until a few days ago on a Zoom call when it couldn't find my camera.

I've updated the camera app

checked the privacy settings

run diagnostics and the troubleshooter, and the support assistant

downloaded Youcam

deleted Mcafee

run all system updates

restarted my computer at least 6 times,

and my settings still say it can't detect the camera.

Also tried:

moving the shutter on and off

looking for a physical camera button (doesn't exist)

looking for the drivers

No drivers found - no "camera" or "imaging devices" categories

tried showing hidden drivers

tried scanning for new drivers

Nothing.

Then I tried the HP support site, and it wouldn't supply the exact drivers needed either. It ONLY shows UPDATES, not the basic drivers needed for the webcam.

Every bit of advice I've seen online has been completely useless.

Now what?

I figured installing the drivers from scratch would fix this, but I can't even find the right download file to use. And there's no way I'm going to download a random file from some random website like an idiot. I can't update my drivers if they don't exist in the first place! And I can't find a download link for any drivers. Microsoft is useless and says to go to HP to download drivers. I'm getting pointed in circles!

I'm desperate, can anyone help me? This is a very expensive laptop. I would expect that something as basic as the webcam would work!

@badghost678, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on your description and the Device Manager image, here's a structured approach to resolve the issue with your HP Envy x360 16-ac0000 webcam not being detected:

Confirm Webcam Hardware is Enabled in BIOS

Sometimes, the webcam may be disabled at the firmware level.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
  • Ensure Integrated Camera is enabled.
  • Save and exit.

Manually Install HP Webcam Driver

HP sometimes bundles webcam drivers under chipset or other categories.

  • Go to the official HP support page for your model:
    Official HP® Support
  • Select Windows 11 as your OS.
  • Expand the following categories:
    • Driver - Chipset
    • Driver - Original
  • Look for anything related to Realtek IR Camera, HP Wide Vision HD Camera, or USB Camera Driver.
  • Download and install all relevant drivers.

Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI

To check if the webcam hardware is physically detected:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Component Tests > Webcam Test.
  • If the webcam is not detected here, it may be a hardware issue.

Reinstall USB Controllers

Sometimes the webcam is connected via internal USB.

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  • Right-click each USB Root Hub and choose Uninstall device.
  • Restart your PC - Windows will reinstall them automatically.

Check for Hidden Devices Again

  • In Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices.
  • Look under Imaging Devices, Cameras, or Unknown Devices.
  • If found, right-click and choose Update driver > Search automatically.

If the webcam still doesn't appear:

  • It could be a hardware failure or loose internal connection

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried the BIOS but was unable to access the Advanced settings. I also tried looking for the drivers for the camera, but they didn't exist in any of the folders either. I also tried the UEFI diagnostics, and it didn't show the webcam either.  Checked hidden devices again too, and there was nothing. I still have no camera or imaging category. What now? Am I supposed to go get my laptop replaced while it's under warranty?
