Bought this monitor in August but problem didn't show up until after the upgrade to Windows 11. I can see these images even when the monitor isn't connected to the computer! They eventually fade or get replaced by other images. So I have concluded that the problem is NOT burn-in and that the monitor itself must have some internal memory that is either populated erroneously or not cleared when it should be. I am trying to find out what W11 services might be causing this problem so I might be able to repair them. I checked and both MS and HP say my driver is up to date.
I tried phone support and had a terrible experience. Waited over an hour before anyone answered and then the tech wouldn't accept the evidence that the monitor had internal memory. Is there another explanation for it showing an image when not connected? Tech also refused to escalate the case and did the usual have you tried stuff from his scripts.
Earlier, I tried to explain the problem to MS and had the same resounding lack of success. Any ideas?

I have done more research and experimentation about this issue and now think it is as described at Image persistence - Wikipedia , with the exception that the persistent image is not, in my case, barely perceptible. Thus I was wrong in saying that the monitor must have internal memory, other than the "memory" is provided by the altered states of the LCD picture elements. I tried leaving a static image on the screen for about three hours and then found that it was bright on the monitor even when the computer was shut down and the monitor was about to go to sleep. The picture below shows how it looks when the monitor is about to go to sleep because "input signal not found".
Moreover, it is possible to get very distracting ghosting even if the image wasn't completely static when some elements of the screen do remain static, such as the task bar, the wallpaper, or the frame of any window. For example, one might be working on a document where only the text window is changing but the surrounding elements remain in place.
I found that I can recondition the monitor to make the ghosting disappear if I run an alternating black and white screensaver for a significant time. But that is a workaround that shouldn't be necessary for an LCD monitor and wasn't for my earlier monitors or before the upgrade to Windows 11. The problem might only be coincidentally related to W11, if the monitor has begun to fail. How should I proceed?
