HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef2000 (771X2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everyone,

I've had my current HP Spectre 2-in-1 for a little over a year now. For the past few weeks, I have been having off-and-on issues with my mouse/touchpad. My mouse on my screen moves on its own from time to time, and is sometimes unresponsive to my use of the touchpad. Recently. the size of the mouse increases on its own, and when I reduce it again in my settings, the glitching (movement) gets worse. I came here because I'm unsure what to do. I took my laptop to Best Buy and they claim that they were unable to replicate the issue after a couple days, but the glitching started resumed within hours of me getting my laptop back from them. I wonder if anyone else has had similar issues? If so, how was it resolved / who did you take your laptop to?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @stressedbyecon,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the cursor movement happen only when using the touchpad, or also when using an external mouse?
  • Have you noticed if the issue occurs after waking the laptop from sleep, or only during extended use?
  • When the cursor size changes, does it happen immediately after adjusting settings, or randomly on its own?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Update Drivers: Go to Device Manager → Mice and other pointing devices and check for driver updates. You can also use HP Support Assistant to ensure all drivers and firmware are current.
  • Check Touchpad Settings: In Windows Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad, reset to default settings and see if the issue persists.
  • Disable Cursor Enhancements: In Control Panel → Mouse → Pointer Options, disable features like “Enhance pointer precision” to rule out software glitches.
  • Run HP Hardware Diagnostics: Restart your laptop and press F2 to access HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. Run a component test for the touchpad.
  • External Mouse Test: Connect a USB or Bluetooth mouse. If the issue doesn’t occur, it may point to a touchpad hardware or driver problem.

I hope this helps.
