@Maggiedoc, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding a Non-Responsive Mouse!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're experiencing difficulty controlling your mouse or it's taking a long time to move, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

Check the Surface: Ensure that you are using the mouse on a suitable surface. Some optical or laser mice may not function correctly on reflective or uneven surfaces. Try using a proper mouse pad.

Clean the Mouse: Dust and debris can affect the sensor or the movement of the mouse. Clean the mouse, including the sensor and the scroll wheel.

Check the Mouse Settings:

  • Windows: Go to Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options. Adjust the pointer speed and ensure that "Enhance pointer precision" is checked.
  • Mac: Go to System Preferences > Mouse or Trackpad. Adjust the tracking speed and other related settings.

Replace the Batteries: If you are using a wireless mouse, the batteries might be low. Replace them with fresh ones.

Reconnect or Resync: If wireless, try reconnecting the mouse to the receiver or resync it according to the product manual.

Update or Reinstall Drivers:

  • Windows: Go to Device Manager, find your mouse under Mice and other pointing devices, right-click on it, and select Update driver. If the problem persists, consider uninstalling the mouse driver and restarting your computer; Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
  • Mac: Make sure your macOS is up-to-date.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
