I have posted this same problem before - around April/May 2025, received many good tips,
but none of them really solved this problem permanently. I have starting a new thread with more
background based on all my activity of the last 2 months on this laptop where the problem recurs.
BACKGROUND of laptop hardware:
My Laptop is HP Omnibook 14", AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 with Radeon 880M.
16 GB memory, 1TB SSD, 2240x1400 resolution, Windows setting to display at 200% scale.
I use a CORDED mouse - no wireless mouse. My SSD disk has 1TB with only 110GB used.
=========================================================================
I mention these hardware characteristics first because my "screen freezing" (caused by mouse) is happening -- not again, because it never really went away. I followed all the suggestions by expert Max3j -- turn off all save power features of [not just] USB, but all other power saving features. I also turned off hibernate, sleep, etc. in battery to ALL = OFF. 99% of the time, I use my laptop always plugged in to wall outlet, i.e., rarely use it on battery stand alone.
I have patiently waited a good 2 months to see if I can detect any established pattern that leads to the freezing. Now as a plain user with no "Windows 11 internals" knowledge I am 99.9% sure there is a relationship between:
(a) my screen resolution of 2240x1400 (on a 14" screen), but configured to 200% scale because anything else is either too small to read or too big to distort certain apps;
(b) Excel (I run the native version, i.e., non-365 subscription) 2019 Student Home ed.
(c) my USB corded mouse causing screen to freeze -- the only way to "get it back" is to power OFF the laptop, Login again and be faced with a somewhat damaged/incomplete Excel file.
This comes after 2 months of repeated use and reconfirmation: in nearly all cases, when I move the mouse to a more "crowded" area of the screen -- usually the upper left hand corner where File >> Save, Save as, etc. pop up, that is where it fails/freezes 95% of the time. A few times, when I press F2 to change a formula and while changing with a combination of keyboard and mouse movement, it also freezes. But 9 times out of 10, it is in the upper left corner where File >> Save, Print ... etc. pop up next.
I've replaced the mouse with 3 other different brands, to no avail.
I never use the mouse trackpad as I find it as bad as using a TV remote to browse the web.
I admit I have no further "useful" info to share, but it seems this is the first HP laptop that I have that is giving this uniquely annoying problem. Perhaps -- and this is also a first for me, it is the AMD RUZEN, as all my previous 3 laptops were all INTEL i5 or i7.
The clearest "pattern" to me is that this freezing has NEVER HAPPENED in Word (which I use daily), Powerpoint (about once a week on average), or web browsing, or any other of the simple freeware apps such as Eraser, Macrium Reflect, FreeFileSynch, Adobe DC reader, Gadwin Printscreen and Baron Bridge 29 (a paid card game).
I would be grateful for some guidance on where to look next. I've exhausted every possible source of this nagging freezing of the screen. I love this HP laptop for its compactness, but the only problem is this unsolved mouse freezing the screen problem. Please help. Thanks in advance.
