Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa1000 (771S6AV)

Since day 1 the mousepad/touchpad on my Victus hangs. It is very annoying. It seems to be a mechanical issue. When using the left side of the pad it would either completely hang or just release with some delay. I wonder if this is an issue with the whole series. Has anybody an idea how to fix it?

Hi @Iselat0r

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the touchpad (mousepad) on your HP Victus 15-fa1749nz laptop, where it hangs or responds with a delay when using the left side of the pad. This could be due to several factors, such as driver issues, hardware malfunctions, or software conflicts. Let’s go through some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem.

1. Check for Physical Obstructions or Debris

First, make sure there is no physical obstruction or debris under or around the touchpad. Dirt, dust, or moisture can interfere with its functionality, especially if the touchpad’s sensors are blocked.

  • Clean the touchpad gently with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Ensure there’s no dirt or moisture around the edges of the pad or underneath it.

2. Update Touchpad Drivers

Outdated or faulty drivers can often cause touchpad issues. You should check for driver updates for the touchpad, as updating it could resolve delays or hanging behavior.

a) Update via Device Manager (Windows):

  1. Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
  3. Right-click on your touchpad (it may be listed as Synaptics, ELAN, or Windows Precision Touchpad) and select Update Driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. If a newer driver is found, it will be installed.

b) Download the latest drivers from HP:

  1. Go to the HP Support Website and search for your HP Victus 15-fa1749nz model.
  2. Look for the Driver Downloads section and find the Touchpad driver (often listed as Synaptics, ELAN, or Windows Precision).
  3. Download and install the latest version of the driver.
  4. After installation, restart the laptop and test the touchpad again.

3. Adjust Touchpad Settings

Sometimes, the touchpad settings might need to be adjusted to avoid sensitivity issues or delays.

a) Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity and Gestures:

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  2. Make sure Touchpad is enabled.
  3. Adjust the sensitivity to a higher or lower setting depending on your preference. Try testing with Medium sensitivity or High sensitivity.
  4. Disable multi-finger gestures temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.
  5. If your touchpad has a scrolling option, turn it off to see if it has any impact.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
