HP Spectre x360 13.5 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ef0000 (3Y837AV)

Hi latelty I have been having trouble with my mousepad. It is to me seemlingly random but sometimes the cursor doesnt move at all or is moving very slow and after some time it magicly appear to work perfect again only to not work again after some minutes. The touch function is completely fine while the mouse is not working. The computer has also some times "clicked on its own"  while im not actively using the mousepad. Is this a hardware problem I need to send it on for or is there some other action I can do? Thanks in advance!

@rikardanka, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on your description, where the cursor moves slowly, randomly stops, or clicks on its own, and considering that the touchscreen continues to function correctly, this could be caused by either driver-related issues, conflicting software, or possibly hardware sensitivity or malfunction. Let's go through some steps to isolate and resolve the issue:

Perform a Hard Reset (Power Reset)

This helps in clearing any static buildup that might affect touchpad responsiveness.

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, external mouse, etc.).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Power it back on and check the touchpad behavior.

Update Touchpad Drivers and BIOS

  • Go to HP Support - Software & Drivers.
  • Enter your product: HP Spectre x360 14-ef0000.
  • Download and install the latest Synaptics or Windows Precision Touchpad driver under "Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices".
  • Also, check for the latest BIOS update under “BIOS” and install if available.
  • Restart your laptop after updates.

Check Touchpad Settings

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
  • Ensure the touchpad is enabled.
  • Adjust the touchpad sensitivity to “Most sensitive” and see if this improves responsiveness.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Power it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run a test on the Touchpad/Pointing Device.

If the diagnostics return an error or if the issue persists even after driver updates, it may suggest a hardware issue with the touchpad or touch controller, especially if the device “clicks on its own.”

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
