HP 14-fq0000 Laptop PC (12N13AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop PC  model HP-14-fq will not recognize displays when connected to a dock. I recently upgraded to latest Windows 11 from 10. I also installed a universal dock driver but that did not work. Keyboard and mouse do work when connected to a dock. I can connect to an 1 external display using HDMI port with no issues.

Hi @MikeJT3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify Dock Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the dock is compatible with your HP 14-fq laptop and supports Windows 11.
  • Confirm that the dock supports multiple monitor setups.

Update Video Drivers:

  • Update your laptop’s graphics drivers to the latest version compatible with Windows 11. You can do this via the HP support website or Windows Update:
    • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the Display adapters section.
    • Right-click on your graphics card and choose Update driver.
    • Follow the prompts to update the driver.

Install Dock Firmware/Drivers:

  • Install any specific drivers or firmware updates for your docking station. Check the dock manufacturer’s website for the latest updates.

Check Display Settings:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Click Detect to force the system to identify connected monitors.
  • Arrange the multiple displays according to your preference and ensure the correct resolution settings.

USB-C Port Configuration:

  • Ensure that your laptop USB-C port supports video output (Alt Mode). Refer to your laptop’s manual or specifications.

Enable High Resolution Mode (if applicable):

  • Enter BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Delete at startup).
  • Go to Advanced > System Options.
  • Enable High Resolution mode when connected to a USB-C® alt mode dock.
  • Save settings and exit BIOS.

Test with Another Device:

  • Try connecting the docking station to another laptop to see if the issue persists. This helps isolate whether the problem is with the docking station, the laptop, or the monitors.

Check Docking Station LEDs:

  • Some docking stations have LED indicators that show the status of connections. Refer to the manual to understand what each indicator light means.

Restart and Power Cycle:

  • Disconnect the dock and any monitors.
  • Restart your laptop.
  • Reconnect the dock and then the monitors.

I hope this helps.

The hp docking station I'm using is what I use for my work hp laptop.  The monitors are connected to the dock via DPI cables.  I'm using the usb c plug from the dock into my new hp laptop.  The laptop uses windows 11.  Neither display works unless I connect directly from one of the monitors with an HDMI cord.

Another thing.  I have the dongle for my wireless keyboard and mouse plugged into the dock and that works fine.
