My HP 5MP is only showing half an image. The right side of the picture is black. Windows 11, almost new machine, HP Pavilion Aero Laptop.  Any suggestions to restore the whole picture (which it did just fine until today)?

Hi @Sue5129,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I’m sorry to hear about the issue with your HP 5MP webcam—it can be frustrating when something was working perfectly and suddenly stops. Let’s work together to troubleshoot and get it back to normal.

  • Have you recently updated any drivers or installed new software that might affect the webcam, such as video conferencing apps?
  • Does the issue occur across all apps (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Camera app) or just in specific ones?
  • Have you noticed any physical damage to the webcam or its cable (if external)?

Let's try these steps.

Restart Your Computer
Sometimes, a simple restart can clear temporary glitches causing issues with hardware.

Check Webcam Settings in the App

  • Open the app where you’re using the webcam (e.g., Camera app).
  • Verify if there’s a zoom, crop, or aspect ratio setting enabled that might affect the image.

Update or Roll Back the Webcam Driver

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras.
  • Right-click your webcam, select Update driver, and choose Search automatically for drivers.
  • If the issue started after an update, click Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver (if available).

Test in Safe Mode

  • Boot your computer in Safe Mode to rule out conflicts with third-party apps.
  • Check if the webcam works correctly in the Camera app.

Reinstall Webcam Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click the webcam and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your computer to allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
