hp laptop 15-dw3xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As mentioned in the title, I got my laptop specs like this:

Display: 1366 * 768

Memory: 8GB

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 2.42 GHz

GPU: Nvidia MX350

I have always a problem for making the laptop work on the nvidia card instead of the intel one, for performance boost of course.

I tried to disable the intel display adapter so it can switch to the nvidia card but it didn't work, and now it's on the microsoft basic display adapter.

I have also tried to set every program i use or game to the nvidia high performance one from the control panel, but still don't get the performance supposed to be from the nvidia card as i see from benchmarks, and it keeps running on the intel card, is there a way so i can switch my display adapter to always use the nvidia mx350?

I have my current nvidia driver version 560.70.

One more info, is that from the advanced display settings from the windows, it will either be the intel one, or the microsoft basic display adapter, it just can't use the nvidia one, I hope my issue is clear, and can be solved.

Thank you all for your responses in advance.

Thank you for the reply and advices to try, and sorry about the delay.

I have managed to solve it using a simpler solution, all of that solutions you have mentioned earlier will make the whole device rely on the nvidia gpu, thus performance issue appear.

I will close this question and solved.

Thank you for your help, and have a nice day.

Hi @Ameer_,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing an issue with your laptop not properly utilizing the Nvidia MX350 GPU over the Intel Iris Xe Graphics. Here are several steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Update Drivers

Ensure you have the latest drivers for both your Intel and Nvidia GPUs. Here's how:

Update Intel Graphics Driver:

  1. Visit the Intel Driver & Support Assistant to automatically detect and update your Intel drivers.

Update Nvidia Graphics Driver:

  1. Visit the Nvidia Driver Download page.
  2. Select the correct specifications for your GPU and download the latest driver.
  3. Install the driver and restart your computer.

Set Nvidia GPU as the Preferred Graphics Processor

Set the Nvidia GPU as the preferred graphics processor in the Nvidia Control Panel:

  1. Right-click on your desktop and select Nvidia Control Panel.
  2. Go to Manage 3D settings on the left-hand side.
  3. Under the Global Settings tab, set the Preferred graphics processor to High-performance Nvidia processor.
  4. Click Apply.

Adjust Graphics Settings for Individual Applications

You can also set specific applications to use the Nvidia GPU:

  1. Open Nvidia Control Panel.
  2. Go to Manage 3D settings.
  3. Click on the Program Settings tab.
  4. Select the application from the dropdown menu or add it manually.
  5. Set the preferred graphics processor to High-performance Nvidia processor.
  6. Click Apply.

Disable Intel Graphics (if needed)

Although disabling the Intel graphics can lead to issues, you can try this step again more cautiously:

  1. Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters.
  3. Right-click on Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics and select Disable device.
  4. Ensure the Nvidia GPU is enabled and functional.

Check BIOS Settings

Sometimes, the BIOS has options related to GPU settings:

  1. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, Delete, or Esc during startup).
  2. Look for settings related to the display or GPU.
  3. Ensure the Nvidia GPU is selected as the primary GPU if such an option is available.
  4. Save and exit the BIOS.

Set Graphics Preference in Windows 10/11

In Windows 10/11, you can specify the preferred GPU for applications:

  1. Go to Settings > System > Display.
  2. Scroll down and click on Graphics settings.
  3. Select Desktop app or Microsoft Store app, then click Browse to add your application.
  4. Click on the added application and select Options.
  5. Choose High performance and save the changes.

Reinstall Nvidia Drivers Using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)

Sometimes, a clean reinstall of the Nvidia drivers can solve the issue:

  1. Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU).
  2. Follow the instructions to completely uninstall the existing Nvidia drivers.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Install the latest Nvidia drivers as mentioned in Step 1.

Check for Conflicting Software

Ensure there are no software conflicts:

  1. Check if any third-party software or utilities might be interfering with the GPU settings.
  2. Temporarily disable or uninstall such software and test the GPU performance.

Windows Graphics Settings

Ensure Windows is set to use the Nvidia GPU for performance:

  1. Right-click on your desktop and select Display settings.
  2. Scroll down and click on Graphics settings.
  3. Add any apps or games you're having issues with and set them to use the High performance Nvidia GPU.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue and ensure your laptop uses the Nvidia MX350 GPU for better performance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
