Hi @John33332
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Spectre x360 stopped recognizing an external monitor connected via the HDMI port, there are several potential causes, such as software or driver issues, settings conflicts, or hardware problems. Here's a systematic approach to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Check the HDMI Cable and Monitor
Since you mentioned trying different monitors, ensure that the HDMI cable is functional. Sometimes, cables can be faulty or damaged without visible signs.
- Test the HDMI cable with another device, like a TV or a different laptop, to confirm it's working.
- Test the monitor with another device to verify that the monitor's HDMI input is functioning properly.
2. Restart Your Laptop
Simple issues like temporary glitches can sometimes be resolved by restarting your laptop. Reboot your HP Spectre x360 to ensure that any transient software issues are cleared.
3. Check Display Settings
Your laptop may not automatically detect the external monitor. You can manually attempt to detect and extend or duplicate the display.
Steps to manually detect the monitor:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings.
- Scroll down to the Multiple Displays section and click Detect.
- If the monitor is detected, choose how you want to display (Duplicate, Extend, or Second Screen Only).
- If it still doesn't show up, try clicking Advanced Display Settings to see if the external monitor appears there.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
