Having a meeting soon, and I just checked my webcam on my laptop, then I saw that it is a black screen in preview, and said the camera is not found. Then I open the device manager and see no camera category in it, and also the device/camera page in Settings. What can I do?

@daniel6784, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP True Vision 5MP camera is completely missing from Device Manager and Windows Settings, here are several steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue urgently before your meeting:
✅ Quick Checks First
- Make sure the webcam is not disabled via a physical key or keyboard shortcut:
- Check if your keyboard has a camera function key (like F8 or F10) — press it (maybe along with Fn) to enable the camera.
- Some HP laptops have a shutter switch on the side or near the webcam — make sure it’s open.
- Restart your laptop – sometimes the webcam doesn't initialize correctly after sleep or hibernation.
🔍 If Still Missing — Try This Step-by-Step
🧰 1. Run the Hardware Troubleshooter via Command Prompt
This might help Windows detect hidden or disconnected devices.
- Press Win + R, type cmd, then right-click and run as Administrator.
- Type this and press Enter: msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic
- Follow the prompts and apply any recommended fixes.
🔧 2. Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager
Sometimes the camera is listed but hidden.
- Open Device Manager → click View > Show hidden devices.
- Expand:
- Imaging Devices
- Sound, video and game controllers
- Universal Serial Bus Controllers (look for any USB Video Device)
- If the camera shows up greyed out, right-click > Enable.
📥 3. Install the Camera Driver from HP
If it’s completely gone, reinstalling the HP camera driver might bring it back:
- Go to HP official support page:
HP Pavilion x360 14-ek0000 drivers - Download the latest HP TrueVision Camera driver under Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices or Multimedia section.
- Install and restart your laptop.
♻️ 4. Scan for Hardware Changes
If the driver was installed but still not visible:
- In Device Manager, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
💡 5. BIOS Check (Optional if nothing else works)
Sometimes the camera is disabled at the firmware level.
- Reboot and enter BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing Esc or F10 on boot).
- Look for any option related to camera and ensure it is Enabled.
- Save and exit.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
