My laptop: HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14m-cd0xxx

The built-in webcam, the HP Wide Vision HD Camera is stuck in black and white. Whether I am taking photos or videos directly through the app or using it in Zoom or Skype the image is in black and white/ gray scale. I have tried checking for updates to the driver and it does not appear to be a filter or setting I can change in the app settings.

I am not sure if this was always a problem because I had never used the video before the last few months.

@EllieCarter, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Follow the steps below to isolate and resolve the issue-

Turn off the webcam IR lights

While some degree of purple tint may be present under low light conditions, turning off the webcam IR lights will reduce and in certain cases eliminate the purple tint.

  1. Select Start > All Programs > HP > HP MediaSmart > HP MediaSmart Webcam.

  2. In HP MediaSmart Webcam, select Settings > Display > Advanced Settings, and then click the Camera Control tab.

  3. Select the Low Light Compensation check box, and then click Apply.

  4. Click OK.

Also, update BIOS, here is the document that can help- https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629
