Hello...

My camera keeps turning off when it's suppose to be on. I repeatedly get the camera image with the slash on it at the bottom of my screen. it interrupts my work. And when I need to Zoom or do other video calls, it goes off and doesn't come back on.

🎥🔍 Troubleshooting Laptop Camera Shutter Button & Keyboard Function

1. Check the Camera Shutter Button:

  • Some HP laptops include a physical camera shutter button on the keyboard.

  • Look at the top row of your keyboard, usually above the number keys (around the 9 or 0 key).

  • The button will have a camera icon, possibly with a line or "X" through it (🚫📷), indicating it's a shutter control.

  • If this button is active, it may disable the camera even if software settings are correct.

2. Test the Keyboard Functionality Using HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Restart your PC.

  • As it turns on, repeatedly press the F2 key to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.

  • On the diagnostics screen:

    • Select Component Tests > Keyboard.

    • Choose your language and keyboard type.

  • A virtual keyboard will appear.

    • Press each key, including the camera shutter button.

    • If the key changes color or highlights when pressed, it's working physically.

    • If the shutter button doesn't respond, the issue could be:

      • Dust or debris under the key

      • A faulty keyboard that may need replacement

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Unfortunately,  your suggestions did not work. I do have a shutter off/on button. it is not a key. it is a tiny button on the side of the laptop. It is on. But the camera keeps going on and off randomly. More off than on. When it's off, I get the error message...

Thanks again.

Have a great day,

Debbie
