My Elitebook won’t detect my dell monitor I don’t know why or what to do. I’ve tried turning both off and on. I have the right adapter and connection cables, so what is the problem??

There are 3 versions of your laptop. Ports 2 and 3 are the only VIDEO ports. Port 3 is HDMI
Is the external monitor USB-C? It can only go into port 2
I do not have experience with USB-C cables but I have found that HDMI cables vary quite a bit in quality.
If the device manager shows "generic pnp external monitor" but nothing shows up on the monitor then the cable is poor quality or the adapter is hdmi and is not bidirectional Generic means the laptop knows something is connected but cannot get an answer back as to what it is.
