Hi @H_p14,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The blinking Caps Lock light on your HP laptop is actually a diagnostic code from HP. It indicates a hardware issue preventing the system from starting. Since the display doesn’t turn on, this is likely a POST (Power-On Self-Test) failure.

What the Blinking Pattern Means

  • HP laptops use blink codes to signal errors.
  • For example:
    • 1 blink = CPU issue
    • 2 blinks = BIOS corruption
    • 3 blinks = Memory (RAM) failure
    • 5 blinks = System board issue
    • Continuous blinking = General hardware fault

Count the long and short blinks carefully. If it’s 3 long and 2 short, that usually means a memory problem.

Steps to Fix

  1. Hard Reset
    • Disconnect the power adapter.
    • Remove battery (if removable).
    • Hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power and try to boot.

  2. Reseat or Replace RAM
    • If comfortable, open the back panel.
    • Remove and reinsert RAM modules.
    • If you have two sticks, try one at a time.

  3. BIOS Recovery
    • Plug in AC power.
    • Hold Windows + B, then press Power for 2–3 seconds.
    • Release Power, keep holding Windows + B until the BIOS recovery screen appears.
