Hi @Sai292,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

A white screen on startup on your HP Pavilion 14-b173cl laptop is a serious but not uncommon issue. It usually points to one of the following:

Possible Causes

  1. Display or Backlight Failure
    • The screen turns on, but no image is rendered, just a white glow.
  2. Loose or Damaged Display Cable
    • The internal video cable connecting the screen to the motherboard may be loose or damaged.
  3. Graphics Driver or GPU Failure
    • If the GPU is malfunctioning, it may fail to send proper signals to the display.
  4. BIOS or Firmware Corruption
    • A corrupted BIOS can cause display issues during boot.

Troubleshooting Steps
1. Check with an External Monitor

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI or VGA.
  • Power on the laptop.
  • If the external display works, the issue is likely with the laptop screen or cable, not the GPU.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the charger (without battery) and try turning it on.

3. BIOS Recovery

If the screen stays white but the laptop powers on:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  3. Release all keys.
  4. If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.

If the screen remains white, the issue is likely hardware-related.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
