The red light blinks five times, and then two, short white light blinks (5 long red, 2 short white)

This condition indicates that the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller cannot find valid firmware. Reset the embedded controller.

  1. Disconnect the AC power from the computer.

  2. Press and hold the power button for more than 12 seconds, and then release.

  3. Wait for the computer to turn on and start normally.

  4. Reconnect the AC power to the computer.

Make sure nothing is connected to any USB ports.

Try the above 12 second reset first.  If that does not work then you may try temporarily disconnect the battery.

and try the 12 second again.

Try 20 full seconds

  • Press the Power button one more time (if necessary) to start the computer.
