Hi!
I have some issues with my trackpad and mouse which is that my mouse keeps clicking and dragging/marking things such as text in documents and on webpages. I have tried to find troubleshoots for this but they all seem to indicate different things. Is this something that is known and is there a fix other than turning it off and use an external mouse instead? Could the trackpad be "worn out" which is why its acting up? It is not all the time when I move the mouse but more often than not.

Hi @Loudhat ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your trackpad might be experiencing issues that could be due to several factors.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:
Check Trackpad Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and ensure the sensitivity is set to a comfortable level. You might also want to disable features like "Tap to Click" temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.
Update Drivers:
- Make sure your touchpad drivers are up to date. You can do this through Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices, right-click on your trackpad, and choose Update driver.
Check for Physical Damage:
- Inspect the trackpad for any physical damage or debris. Clean it gently with a microfiber cloth to ensure there's no dirt affecting its function.
Test in Safe Mode:
- Boot your laptop in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if a third-party application is causing the problem.
External Mouse Test:
- Since you mentioned using an external mouse, check if the same behavior occurs with it. If it does, the issue may not be limited to the trackpad.
Reset Touchpad Settings:
- If you've made customizations to the touchpad settings, resetting them to default may help.
Hardware Test: HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
- Run HP’s built-in hardware diagnostics to check for any hardware issues:
- Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F2 to run the diagnostics.

I hope this helps.
