Hi @Keirq,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP notebook’s touchpad suddenly stopped working, here are the steps to troubleshoot:
1. Check if the Touchpad is Disabled
- Press Fn + F5 or Fn + F7 (varies by model) to toggle the touchpad.
- Look for a small LED near the touchpad:
- Orange light = disabled
- No light = enabled
2. Restart the Laptop
- A quick restart can reset the touchpad driver.
3. Update or Reinstall Touchpad Driver
- Open Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X > Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click Synaptics/ELAN/HP Touchpad → Update driver.
- If that doesn’t work:
- Right-click → Uninstall device → Restart (Windows will reinstall automatically).
4. Check Touchpad Settings
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure the Touchpad is turned ON.
5. BIOS Settings
- Restart and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.
- Ensure the Internal Pointing Device is enabled.
6. HP Support Assistant
- Download HP Support Assistant: 👉 HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
- Run updates for drivers and firmware.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
