My laptop screen flickers on and off with lines and shades of the tray panel icons . It didnt fall or broke . Do I need to change screen? When I connected to external projectors, the projector screen was clear! no flickers or lines.

Hi @Saranaqvi,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Screen flickering can be caused by various factors, including hardware and software issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the screen flickering issue on your HP Pavilion X360 Convertible laptop.

  • Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause screen flickering. Visit the HP support website or the website of the graphics card manufacturer to download and install the latest graphics drivers for your laptop.
  • Adjust Screen Refresh Rate: Right-click on the desktop, select Display settings, then scroll down and click on Advanced display settings. Under Display information, check the current refresh rate and try lowering it to see if the flickering improves. You can also experiment with different refresh rate settings to find the optimal one.
  • Check Display Cables: Make sure the cables connecting the laptop to the display are securely plugged in. If you're using an external monitor, try using a different cable or port to rule out any issues with the connection.
  • Disable Hardware Acceleration: Some software applications use hardware acceleration, which can conflict with the graphics card and cause screen flickering. To disable hardware acceleration in Windows, right-click on the desktop, select Display settings, scroll down and click on Graphics settings, then toggle off "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling" and "Graphics hardware acceleration."
  • Run a Virus Scan: Malware or viruses can also cause screen flickering. Use an up-to-date antivirus program to scan your laptop for any malicious software and remove it if detected.
  • Check for Software Conflicts: Certain software programs or drivers can conflict with your graphics card and lead to screen flickering. Try to identify any recently installed software or driver updates and uninstall them one by one to see if the issue resolves.
  • Test in Safe Mode: Boot your laptop into Safe Mode to determine if the issue is caused by a software conflict. In Safe Mode, only essential drivers and services are loaded. If the screen flickering doesn't occur in Safe Mode, it's likely that a software program or driver is causing the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
