@OD31, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding PC screen freezing!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When a PC freezes and then resets like that, it often points to overheating, driver conflicts, or a system file issue. Let’s try a few steps to narrow it down:

Check for overheating

When the freeze happens, listen/feel if the laptop gets unusually hot or the fans rev up.

Make sure the vents aren’t blocked and give the fans a clean with compressed air if dusty.

Update BIOS, drivers, and Windows

Go to HP Support site → enter your serial number → install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.

Run Windows Update as well.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Turn off the PC, then power it on and immediately press Esc, then F2.

Run the System Test (especially memory and hard drive tests).

Check Event Viewer logs

Press Win + X → Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System.

Look for red “Critical” or “Error” messages around the time of the restart — these often point to the cause.

Test in Safe Mode

Restart → press F11 → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Safe Mode.

If it doesn’t freeze there, the issue is likely driver/software related.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
