Hi @Pratyush8,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP laptop's screen may be experiencing a hardware issue. Here are some steps you can try to diagnose and potentially fix the problem.
- Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary display issues.
- Check connections: Ensure that the cables connecting your laptop to an external monitor or projector (if any) are securely plugged in and not damaged.
- Update graphics drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display problems. Visit the HP support website, enter your laptop model, and download the latest graphics drivers. Install them and restart your laptop.
- Run hardware diagnostics: HP laptops often have built-in diagnostics tools. You can access them by restarting your laptop and pressing a specific key (often F2, F10, ESC, or Del) during startup. Run a comprehensive test to check for hardware issues.
- External monitor test: Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue persists. If the external monitor displays correctly, the problem might be with your laptop's screen or internal connections.
- Check for physical damage: Inspect your laptop's screen for cracks, visible damage, or signs of liquid exposure. Physical damage may require professional repair.
- Reset display settings: If you can access your desktop, try resetting the display settings to default. Right-click on the desktop, choose "Display settings" (or "Screen resolution"), and reset to default settings.
Given the symptoms you described (black screen with lines), it's likely that the issue is related to the laptop's hardware rather than software.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
