Hi @Sid-181,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop touchpad hasn’t been working for 8 months, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Check Touchpad Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad. Make sure the touchpad is enabled.
Update or Reinstall Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
- Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- Right-click on your touchpad device (it might be listed as something like "Synaptics" or "ELAN") and select Update driver. Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers.
- If updating doesn’t work, you might want to uninstall the driver and then restart your laptop. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically upon restart.
Check for Physical Issues:
- Sometimes, a touchpad might not work due to physical damage or debris. Ensure there is no dirt or residue on the touchpad.
Check BIOS Settings:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, or ESC during startup).
- Look for touchpad settings in the BIOS and ensure it's enabled.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostics. You can access it by pressing the F2 key during startup to run hardware tests.
Perform a System Restore:
- If the touchpad stopped working recently and you suspect a software issue, you might want to perform a System Restore to a point when the touchpad was working.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
