HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 (2D119AV)

My webcam has stopped working. Every time I open the Camera app or any other app/website which accesses my webcam, I only get a black screen instead of the image. I have tried everything that the online support says but the problem still persists.

Hi @DrStrange18,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP laptop's webcam. If you've already tried the basic troubleshooting steps recommended by online support and the problem persists, here are some additional steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.

Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Locate the "Imaging devices" category and expand it.
  • Right-click on your webcam and choose "Update driver." Follow the on-screen instructions to search for and install any available updates.

Reinstall Webcam Driver:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your webcam and select "Uninstall device."
  • Once uninstalled, restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the necessary drivers upon restart.

Check Privacy Settings:

  • Go to "Settings" and select "Privacy."
  • Under the "Camera" section, make sure that the toggle switch is turned on for "Allow apps to access your camera."

Antivirus or Security Software:

  • Some antivirus or security software may interfere with the webcam. Temporarily disable your antivirus software and check if the issue persists. If disabling the antivirus solves the problem, you may need to adjust its settings to allow camera access.

BIOS/UEFI Update:

  • Check the HP support website for any BIOS or UEFI updates for your laptop model. Updating the system firmware can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your operating system is up to date. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" and click on "Check for updates."

System Restore:

  • If the issue started after a recent change or update, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a point before the problem occurred.

Remember to back up important data before making significant changes to your system, such as updating drivers or performing a system restore.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
