Can I download a new touchpad driver for my laptop. I've tried several on the HP website. Even though there seems to be no issue with the download/install, they don't show up in my device manager.

Hi @lmh1107,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop’s touchpad driver installs successfully but doesn’t appear in Device Manager, it usually means Windows isn’t detecting the hardware or the driver isn’t binding correctly. Here’s how to fix it:
1. Show Hidden Devices
- Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Click View > Show hidden devices.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices or Human Interface Devices.
- If the touchpad appears grayed out, right-click and Enable device.
2. Scan for Hardware Changes
- In Device Manager, click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
- This forces Windows to detect the touchpad again.
3. Add Legacy Hardware Manually
If the touchpad still doesn’t show:
- In Device Manager, click Action > Add legacy hardware.
- Choose Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced).
- Select Show All Devices, then pick Synaptics, ELAN, or HP from the manufacturer list.
- Install the driver manually.
4. Check BIOS Settings
- Restart your laptop and press F10 (or Esc + F10) to enter BIOS.
- Under Advanced or Main, ensure Touchpad is set to Enabled or Advanced, not Disabled.
- Save and exit.
5. Run Hardware Troubleshooter
- Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:
- msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic
- Follow the wizard to detect hardware issues.
6. Reinstall the Driver
- Uninstall any existing touchpad entries in Device Manager.
- Download the latest driver for your model from HP: 👉 Official HP® Support
- Alternatively, let Windows Update reinstall the correct driver.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
