G42-415DX
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Just reinstalled Win& from Recovery disks and is performing well, except for all US ports not working. There is an exclamation mark under ALL Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Thur internet, I downloaded a Lenovo website link to Intel file to install the drivers, but it comes back to say the computer does not meet the minimum requirement.

I'm lost without use of a USB mouse and other uses of USB ports.

Please help

Hi:

See if installing the amd chipset driver from the link below works for you.

You want the 1st file listed on the webpage.  Install and restart the PC.

Your prompt response (minutes) is GREATLY appreciated. Your link and subsequent installation of this ATI updated software, did the trick and installed not only the 6-7 devices noted by Device Manager, but many more.

I noticed this version was different than what is on HP website (following):

This package provides the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst Control Center for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs). Switchable graphics enable users to switch between a power-saving graphics mode (normally used under battery power) and a high-performance graphics mode. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver.

Feedback: After I reinstalled Win7 from the Recovery Disks, everything was working fine (USB), but the Universal Serial Bus controllers crashed after I installed the above. I know for sure I ws logged in with my specific computer model on HP website for updates. I don't know how could I, or someone with your expertise, could inform HP of this debacle because of their update? I'm scared of using other updates, least some might create new headaches, while pursuing intended improvement from these updates.

Thank you again

You're very welcome.

I was wondering why you had issues with the USB drivers, and unfortunately, I wouldn't know why the HP AMD graphics driver caused such a disaster.

This is a peer to peer forum.  Most of us do not work for or represent HP.

You can contact HP at the link below, and report the issue you experienced with that driver.

Where your help made my Win7 work like old-times, may I benefit from your expertise: Before my recent reinstall, I was using a second monitor with my laptop, where my 32" (2nd monitor) was the main display, but the laptop screen activated displaying other instituted programs e.g PDF file. It was easy to do and I loved this setup.

Now after this reinstall and this adapter correction you helped me with, where everything else is back to normal with great resolution in display on the laptop screen, I am not able to repeat the past. The 2nd monitor is connected thru an HDMI cable. Whether with Extend Display or Duplicate Display, if I use laptop screen as the main, Desktop shows the program icons and Taskbar, but when I switch the main display to the 2nd monitor, Taskbar disappears and the same program icons go beyond the screen. I don't seem to get all that shows on laptop screen onto the 2nd monitor.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

PS: I'm certainly better even with this laptop screen doing what Win7 is supposed to do, but I've lost the benefit of a second monitor.

If this request is beyond the scope of politeness, I can generate a new post and take the usual route

Thanks

Hi:

I would love to help you, but unfortunately, I don't know why that is happening.

The only suggestion I can offer, with no guarantee that it will resolve the problem, would be to try the graphics driver directly from AMD as well.  1st driver on the list.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

You may want to give the graphics driver from amd a try if no one else has a suggestion that is bound to work.

I doubt installing the driver would make a bad situation worse.

It is probably a newer driver than the one on your notebook's support page.
