Long story short, I'm in need of a replacement screen and don't know what to look for. I've tried using google to find a screen that fits the laptop, but google shows me many screens. I've never had to replace one before, so I'm lost.
The laptop powers on fine, but the screen stays black. I can connect to an external, and that works fine, so based on what I've read, something happened to the built in screen and it needs to be replaced.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

The screen is expensive for just a try. Your screen cable may be faulty, which is considerably cheaper. Your GPU (part of CPU) may be faulty too, because its outputs are independent from each other. So, look for a competent repair shop around your location. You cannot solve the problem yourself without spare parts.
