15s-fq2000
Microsoft Windows 11

I just bought a new laptop and tried to connected to the same setup I have for work using the HP USB-C dock station G5 and the laptop port doesn't recognize the 2 monitors connected to the dock station, I tried to connect a portable monitor I have using the USB-C port and doesn't work either. I contacted HP Smartfriend but the technician told me that my port is not thunderbolt type so it can't transmit video but I don't think this is true.

What is your machine ? For example

         HP Laptop 15s-fq2000np

Your machine should have same ports as the above machine.

It ONLY has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine
  • Connect to an external monitor with / without hub/dock/adapter

Regards.

So is there any way of connecting more than 1 external monitor to laptops with this spec, does anyone know?

Then what are the options here? Return the laptop and buy another one?

FWIW, I've just connected a Chromecast to my second monitor and cast the desktop through Chrome. It's a bit clunky, performance wise particularly capturing/keeping up with cursor movements but for large, relatively static displays it's doing the job for me (for now...)
